Broken World - A Roguelike Proof of Concept
Please note this is much more a proof of concept than an actual game. With that said feedback (especially on the concepts present) is greatly appreciated!
Premise
This game prototype was made for the Game Maker Toolkit Jam 2022, with the theme "Roll the Dice."
I went with the interpretation of a dice being an object (usually a cube) with a distinct value on each face, and from there came up with the idea to have each face correspond to a level or room in a roguelike setting. The player would move between rooms by rotating the world.
The main gimmick, which is mostly present in this build, is having the player add more "dice," with randomized faces, to the world, with the corresponding total surface area of each side coming together to form each room.
There's various ways I picture this mechanic expanding:
- Each face gets more challenging every time the player clears it, to disincentivize repeating an easy room over and over.
- Covering up an existing face makes the corresponding face on the new dice inherit some property of the old one (difficulty, enemies, etc.), which would snowball into complex stacks of rooms the player must deal with.
